What shade are you?

What shade are you?

What Shade Are You Logo 2016  I was really excited when RJR Fabrics asked me to be apart of of their What Shade Are You Blog Hop.  I have been wanting to create another Half Square Triangle quilt and thought it would be a perfect time to do so.

When it was my time to select my colors I was immediately overwhelmed about where to start… There were so many beautiful colors to choose from.  I decided to scroll threw some of my favorite color inspiration pins on pinterest.  I settled on a beautiful series of travel photos found on the awesome travel blog Kevin and Amanda.

The colors I chose for this quilt are:
Putting GreenIMG_2109
Tiffany Box
Neon
ToyBoat
Meadowland
Aloe Verde
Sprout
Peridot
Harlequin
Peapod
Glow in the dark
Ginkgo
Seaglass
Citron
Bougainvillea
Twilight
Hydrangea
Verbena
Jacaranda
Grape
Amethyst
Graystone
Overcast
Linen
Kerchief
Burlap
Greyhound
Driftwood
Moss
Cream
Moonlight

I really wanted my quilt to be mostly neutral, with pops of these colors, but as I got to working the quilt just took a life of its own. I decided not to fight it.  I think thats what I love most about these types of quilts… the Journey, letting the colors just flow and letting them decide ultimately where they should go.  No plan.  Just play.

For the quilting, I knew I wanted something simple to keep the quilt soft and cuddly.  I opted for an on-point straight line cross grid.

I can’t tell you how many out-takes of this photo there were….  Because of the Princess Mabel… She didn’t understand why I was on the floor and not giving her attention….

I bound the quilt in Bougainvillea which I am pretty sure is my new favorite color… Backed in Driftwood.  I hand stitched the binding using Spagetti from WonderFil 12wt.  It was first time using it; it’s pretty nice to work with and I love the results.  DSC_3789 copy

I plan on keeping this quilt on my couch, its cozy and a perfect size for cuddling under.  I think I may crank the air on today just so I can enjoy it!

Thank you to RJR Fabrics for the opportunity to be a part of this event!
